Sleep Apnea/Snore Relief

Sleep apnea is a serious medical disorder that causes your breathing to periodically stop while you sleep. The most common form of sleep apnea is called obstructive sleep apnea, which happens when your airway gets blocked during sleep. Unobstructed sleep apnea increases your risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. It also contributes to learning and memory problems, poor job performance, depression and a higher risk for accidents, such as car crashes.

If I suspect that you have sleep apnea, I will refer you to a sleep medicine doctor to undergo a sleep study called a polysomnography.

Treatment of Sleep Apnea:

C-PAP: (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) This is considered to be the first line of treatment.

Oral appliances: In patients that cannot tolerate C-PAP, oral appliance therapy can be a successful alternative. Dr. Arnold utilizes several different oral appliances, depending on your particular needs.

Oral surgery: Surgical intervention can be a viable alternative for some patients.

Snoring Relief

It is estimated that 50% of adult males and 30% of adult females may be affected by snoring. Snoring usually occurs when your airway constricts, causing air to be inhaled at an increased speed and pressure, making the soft tissues in the back of your mouth vibrate and produce loud and annoying sounds. Snoring may be no more than a social problem, straining relationships, or it could be a sign of a more serious, potentially life-threatening disorder, called sleep apnea.

Treatment of snoring: Oral appliance therapy that opens your airway has proven to be successful. Dr. Arnold utilizes several different types of oral appliances, depending on your particular needs.
